Forget the “vibe shift,” await the second coming of Christ
Vibe shift vibe shift vibe shift what about your immortal soul?
Most of you will survive the vibe shift. If there even is one. There was a lot of mockery back in Q1 but it was clearly mixed with anxiety about an actual potential vibe shift, it’s just that no one knows how to be sincere on Twitter (or anywhere). What's the “vibe” anymore anyway? The K-HOLE guy says it was “Hybebeast” or something and we should believe him because he named “normcore” a decade ago and thinks that was an actual vibe. Was that really a vibe? I was hanging around a lot of “hip” people at the time like art school kids and media people and the like, and while we all incorporated the occasional normcore lewk or items into our life I don’t think it really ideologically changed us, I don’t think it really constituted a “vibe” like people said it did, and I only really knew like two people who threw themselves totally into it and they came off like the most desperate fucking trend-chasers in the world. One of them had an OkCupid bio that specifically said “looking to get into normcore.”
All these culture “people” live in New York and literally do not realize that anything exists outside New York. Did New York even have the black-toque-guy phase? I wouldn’t know because I’ve never been to New York or LA, and that’s on purpose. I met way more black-toque-guys in Montreal than I ever met normcore people. The whole “vibe shift” thing earlier this year was driven by millennials getting Of That Age where they’re anxious that they’re finally, truly no longer cool, and New York in particular hasn’t realized its not cool anymore and hasn’t been for years now, so these New York millennial types who like I dunno work in advertising or some shit are shitting their pants. Probably guys like the ones Sam Hyde dunked on in that one video (this is not an endorsement of Sam Hyde).
(That’s the “cheap lambrusco wine” clip in case it gets taken down again)
Yeah I know this months too late, but I didn’t have a non-platform back then.
If you're too worried about the vibe shift you were never cool to begin with so don't worry. You clung to some piece of cultural detritus and thought it could give you an enduring identity and it didn’t. Remember back in like 2011 when all the fashion blogs were declaring the End of Fashion History and saying that finally clothes fit the way they should and would never change again? 9/11.
Is Ukraine the vibe shift? Is Putin the archetypal hypebeast and Zelenskyy Dimes Square? Is angelicism01 butterfly mines? Like I said, millennials are scared because they’re reaching that age where the ones who used to be “with it” are scared of not being “with it” anymore (and that what “it” is becoming is “new and scary”). If you staked your identity on Fuck Jerry, you’re fucked, Jerry!
These MET gala invitee wannabees (they act like they’re not but they are) should shut up about the vibe shift and prepare for the second coming, which is probably a lot closer than most people realize. Jesus is gonna separate the sheep from the goats and, spoiler, if you’re on the vibe shift mentality, you’re a goat.
