If there's one thing about Margaret Atwood, it's that she would never deign to kowtow to some rich asshole who can do something for her.
We love this picture because it depicts Atwood, the artist in her natural habitat. Her role in the cultural environment is to cast the light of her beneficient presence onto the establishment, no matter how reactionary.
It's like a boomer parent saying "respect the office, not the man in it." In other words, the institutions are beyond criticism. We limit ourselves to criticizing the individuals, not the institutions and the structures of power they uphold.
I can’t believe this was taken seconds before I fuckin freaked it crazy style in their direct vicinity and made a FOOL of myself but also everyone else involved!!!!!
